He arranged the Kuk Sool WonTM syllabus - which is
both vast and versatile - into three levels:
(1) student level
(2) instructor level
(3) master level
Each of these levels can be represented in an educational
context.
(1) The student level is sub-divided into:
(a) ki cho - pre-school;
(b) cho gup - elementary school;
(c) joong gup - junior high school;
(d) go gup - high school;
(e) dae gup - university.
At this point, the student gains a first degree black belt, which, in educational terms, is equivalent to a bachelor degree. From now on, he/she can, with the permission of their instructor, teach below-black-belt students. Such a student can even, with the permission of Kuk Sa Nim, start a new Kuk Sool WonTM school.
(2) However, the official instructor level is obtained with the gaining of a fourth degree black belt, which is comparable to being awarded a university master degree.
(3) The master level begins with the awarding of a fifth degree black belt, which is equivalent to a university PhD degree.
